That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9

Our Story

By: Mack & Mitzi

It happened in 1992, when we received a letter from an inmate in La., that God called us into Prison Ministry. The young man was seeking spiritual encouragement, and we responded with these words: "You can be free no matter where you are, If you are in Christ". We were encouraged to hear from him again, telling us he was studying his Bible and growing in Grace. After some time, he became the Chaplain's Assistant and remained in that position for 9 years. He was released in 2007.

As we were being used in encouraging other inmates, we knew for certain we needed to pursue this calling on our lives. The Scriptures that guided us are Matt.25:35-40; 2 Cor.5:17-21 and Heb. 13:3.

Upon retirement in the fall of 1998, we visited with the Sheriff at the Palo Pinto County Jail, where we received permission to hold bi-weekly services, which we have been doing since March 1999, and adding a monthly service at CCA in 2000. God has added many ministry partners over theses past 13 years. Currently we have 12 faithful team members, two of which are former inmates.

As two friends were chatting on the phone, wondering how we could reach more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we discussed the possibility of a newsletter, and that Oct. day in 2000 the Free Life News was born. The first devotional was written by the young man in La. to encourage other inmates who did not yet know Jesus as Savior. We started with 100 one page newsletters to be handed out at the County Jail. But God had plans to expand our territory and to date we mail the Free Life News in bundles to 85 Prison Chaplains, to about 500 individual inmates and several Churches totaling almost 6000 16 page newsletters.

We are thankful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His sweet salvation and call upon our lives to serve Him by serving others. We are also thankful for the monthly financial support we receive and our faithful team members who have joined us in this ministry.
